INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION MOTIVATIONS: A RESEARCH ON THE CAUSES OF THE COMMUNICATION OF THE HUMAN BEINGS WITH THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM

Hüsamettin AKAR1

This study aims to find an answer to the question why human beings communicate with each other. According to the approach of uses and gratifications, the human beings communicate when they need or obtain the satisfaction they desire. When the related literature is reviewed, the satisfactions which human beings struggle to obtain are as follows; (1) to be happy, (2) to gain the love-affection of the opponent or display love-affection to them, (3) to get involved in the conversation, (4) to be able to control the opponents, (5) to avoid the problems (escape) and (6) to relax. Since all the studies were conducted in foreign countries and there is no such a study in our country, we decided to execute this study. In the application section of this study, a face to face interview was conducted with 325 people who reside in Erzincan and have different age, occupation and education levels. According to the obtained results, human beings communicate with the people in their environment in accordance with the motivations of “happiness” and “getting involved and relaxing” which we can regard as a sort of socialization. Another achieved conclusion is that the gender, age, education level and occupation of the people lead to the differences in their communication with the other people.
