OPINIONS OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION CLASSROOM TEACHERS ON THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE

Physical Education courses play a significant role in rehabilitation and physical and mental development of elementary education students in their growth period. The Physical Education courses at the first stage of elementary education are instructed by classroom teachers in the first three years of elementary education. Physical Education courses are again given by classroom teachers in the fourth and fifth years at the schools where no physical education teacher is available. In order to render classroom teachers capable of instructing the Physical Education courses thus trained, Physical Education courses are provided for those teachers at the universities. It is understood that the Physical Education courses given in elementary schools are not suitable for the purpose and nature of these courses. Physical Education courses given at the first stage of elementary education are considered as courses where either missing parts of other courses are completed or students play games on their own in the schoolyard without supervision of any teacher. Physical conditions and equipment necessary for performing physical education courses should be provided.
