Beethoven’ın yaratıcılığının ilk dönemini noktalayıp II. dönemine açılan ilk büyük ölçekli yapıtı Eroica Senfonisi’dir. Bu senfonide hem orkestrasyon hem de form anlamında o döneme değin görülmemiş yenilikler dikkat çekmektedir. Eserdeki formal yeniliklere dair bilinen en önemli unsur, III. bölümde Menuet-Trio’nun (Da capo form) yerini Scherzo’nun almasıdır. Bununla birlikte, karmaşık yapısı itibariyle daha az değinilen, ancak gerek içerik, gerekse formal fonksiyon bağlamında önem arz eden bir bölüm daha vardır. Bu da, eserin II. bölümü olan Marcia funebre, yani Cenaze Marşı’dır. Bu çalışmada, söz konusu bölümün tematik ve motifsel analizi, tonal planı, genel armonik bağlamı ve orkestrasyon unsurlarını da kapsayan ayrıntılı bir formal analiz yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, esere dair gelişkin ve kompleks bir Rondo-Varyasyon yapılanmasının vurgulandığı, bütüncül bir form analiz modeli oluşturmaktır.

Eroica symphony is known as the first large scale composition that signaled Beethoven's second creativity period. Both orchestral and formal innovations which were not seen until this period draw attention with this symphony. The first remarkable formal innovation is the replacement of menuet-trio (da capo form) by scherzo in the third movement. Nonetheless, with its complex structure and general content, another remarkable movement appears to be Marcia funebre (funeral march) which is the second movement of the symphony. In this study, the aforementioned symphony's second movement was analyzed formally, including the motivic analysis, tonal plan, general harmonic context and orchestration. The aim of this study is to emphasize the advanced and complex structure of Rondo-variation form in order to encompass an integral analytical model of the form.
