Gerede, dünyadaki deri üretim merkezlerinden birisidir. Büyükbaş deri üretimi gerçekleştirilen Gerede’de ekonomik hayat neredeyse deriye ve deri sektörünün geleceğine endekslidir. Bu bilince sahip olan deri üreticileri, modern deri üretiminin gerektirdiği teknolojik gelişmelere ayak uydurabildikleri için Türkiye’deki diğer deri üreticilerine göre büyük gelişme kaydedebilmişler ve Gerede’yi devamlı üretim yapan canlı bir deri merkezi konumuna getirebilmişlerdir. Bu gelişmenin en önemli sebeplerinden birisi Gerede’deki dericilerin birleşerek kurdukları ortak kullanım tesisleridir. Kolektif üretim olarak da adlandırılan bu sistem İtalya'dan esinlenerek geliştirilmiştir. Her tabakhane kendi fabrikasına kendi makinalarını almak yerine, ortak olarak makinalar alınmış ve böylece makinalar atıl durumda kalmadan sürekli üretim yaparak uygun maliyetle deri işlenebilir bir konuma ulaşılmıştır. Bu çalışmada Deri Organize Sanayi Bölgesi’ne taşınma süreci başlayan Gerede Tabakhanelerindeki dört adet ortak kullanım tesisi karşılıklı görüşme yöntemi ve gözlem yöntemiyle incelenmiş; kolektif deri üretiminin detayları ve bu üretim çeşidinin sürdürülebilirliği konusundaki fikirler göz önüne serilmeye çalışılmıştır.

Gerede is one of the leather production center in the world. In Gerede, which produces bovine leather, economic life is almost indexed to the future of the leather and leather industry. Tanners who have this awareness, they can adapt to the technological developments required by modern leather production so they made great progress compared to other leather manufacturers in Turkey and they were able to make Gerede an active leather center. One of the most important reasons for this development is the common use facilities established by tanners in Gerede. This system, also called collective production, is inspired from Italy. Instead of buying their own machines, every tannery has taken the machines as a partner and thus the machines can be processed at an affordable cost by making continuous production without being idle. In this study, four common use facilities in Gerede Tanneries, which started the process of moving to Leather Organized Industrial Zone, were examined by mutual interview method and observation method; the details of collective leather production and the ideas about the sustainability of this type of production have been tried to be exposed.
