Öğrenme sürecini olumsuz etkileyen yabancı dil öğrenme kaygısı konusuna dikkat çekmek ve yüksek bulunan grupta öncelikle farkındalık yaratmak ve hafifletici önlemler almak amacıyla bu araştırma planlanmıştır. Araştırmada, durumu betimlemeye yönelik ve tarama modeline uygun olarak yapılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Yabancı Dil Sınıf Kaygısı Ölçeği (Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale)’ kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini, İnönü Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulunda 2008–2009 öğretim yılında okuyan toplam 168 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veriler tablolar halinde gösterilmiş ve öğrencilerin ölçekten aldıkları puanlar, cinsiyet, yaş ve zorunlu veya seçmeli ders alma değişkenlerine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Anlamlılık düzeyi 0.05 olarak alınmıştır. Araştırmada cinsiyet ve yaş gibi iki bireysel değişkenin, öğrencilerin yabancı dil öğrenme kaygısı yönünden istatistikî olarak anlamlı bir fark yaratmadığı görülmektedir. FOREIGN LANGUAGE ANXIETY OF THE STUDENTS IN INÖNÜ UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The purpose of this study is to call attention to foreign language anxiety and raise the awareness level of the target population in order to alleviate the effects of the anxiety. The survey method was used in the study and to gather the data, Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale was applied to 168 students during 2008-2009 academic year in İnönü University, School of Foreign Languages. The findings were presented in tables and the scores of the students were evaluated by the variables such as gender, age and compulsory or voluntary status of the students. According to the results, the variables such as gender and age were not significant statistically. The only variable which was found to be statistically significant was “compulsory or voluntary status” of the students. Anxiety level of compulsory preparatory school students was significantly higher than that of volunteer students.
