Sözcüklerin duyu organları yoluyla algılanıp anlamlandırılması, kavranması ve yorumlanmasına dayanan zihinsel bir etkinlik olan okumanın bireyin gelişmesinde önemli bir etkisi vardır. İlköğretim II. Kademe ise bu becerinin alışkanlığa dönüştürülmesinde kritik bir dönemdir. Yaşam boyu önemini koruyan okumaya yönelik ilköğretim II. kademe öğrencilerin tutumlarının hangi değişkenlere göre farklılaşabildiğinin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Bu yüzden bu çalışmanın amacı ilköğretim II. kademe öğrencilerinin okumaya yönelik tutumlarının çeşitli değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini belirlemektir. Araştırmanın veri toplama aracı olarak Likert Tipi Tutum Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğrencileri okumaya yönelik tutumlarında cinsiyet, akademik başarı, Türkçe dersini sevme, herhangi bir kütüphaneye üye olma, kitap okumayı sevme sıklığı ile okuma alışkanlığı kazandığına inanma durumlarına göre anlamlı farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir.

Reading, a mental exercise based on words made sense of and interpreted and sensed by sensory organs has a key role on individual development. The period of Secondary Education is a critical time for students to converse these skills into convention. It should be determined that according to what variables the attitudes of secondary education students towards reading, which protects its importance lifelong, can differ. Therefore, the aim of this study is to find out whether the attitudes of Secondary Education Students show difference according to different variables or not. As a means of data gathering tool, likert-type attitude scale was used. According to the results of the study, it was found out that the attitudes of students towards reading shows meaningful differences according to gender, academic success, loving Turkish courses, being a member of a library and loving reading books.
