Bu çalışmanın amacı, hikâye anlatımı gibi sosyal bir süreci kullanarak ilköğretimde okuyan İngilizce öğrencilerinin bu uygulamayla ilgili tutumlarının gözlemlenmesi ve hikâye anlatımının üç-aşamalı motivasyon modeline uygun olup olmadığının saptanmasıdır. Bu çalışmada ortaya çıkan bulgulardan bir tanesi öğrencilerin motivasyonunun bir ders boyunca etkinliğini yitirmemesidir. Bir diğer bulgu ise yabancı dil derslerinde kullanılan hikâye anlatım metodunun, öğrencilerin sadece dinlenme, konuşma ve kelime kazanma becerilerini geliştirmekle kalmayıp içlerinde var olan drama yeteneklerinin de ön plana çıkmasına ve her anlatımla kendilerine duydukları güvenin artmasına yardımcı olmasıdır.

The aim of this study is to observe the attitudes of students learning English in elementary school towards using such a social process as story-telling and to find out whether the story-telling is appropriate for the three-stages of motivation model. One of the findings of this study is that the students’ motivation has not lost its effect throughout the lesson. The other finding is that the method of story-telling used in foreign language classrooms has not only helped to develop students’ listening, speaking and vocabulary-building skills but also helped to unearth their drama skills and to increase their self-confidence, in every retelling.
