LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIPS OF JOHN DORY, Zeus faber(Linnaeus, 1758) INHABITING THE GULF OF ISKENDERUN

Nuri BAŞUSTA 1 , Kağan BUZ2

In this study, the total length-weight relationships of the John Dory (Zeus faber) were examined in the Gulf of Iskenderun. Zeus faber individuals were captured at a depth of 80-110m by commercial trawlers off the Gulf of Iskenderun. A total of 100 (37 females and 63 males) Zeus faber were obtained. Minimum-maximum total length and body weights of captured John Dory fishes were determined as 8.6-37.2cm and 9.01-636.62g for females and 10.3-41.9cm and 15.64-982.49g for males respectively. Total length-weight relationships of John Dory were found as W=0.0136xL3.002, R2=0.983, SEb=0.0465 for all sexes, W=0.0138xL2.989, R2=0.977, SEb=0.0533 for females and W=0.0134xL3,013, R2=0.987, SEb=0.0417 for males. 95% Confidence intervals(CI) for b value were 2.924-3.080 for combined sexes, 2.831-3.147 for females and 2.926-3.099 for males. According to these CI values, combined sexes observed isometric growth (b=3) (t-test: p<0.05).
