Hayvanlarda davranış, hayvanın bulunduğu çevre ile karşılıklı etkileşmesidir. Hayvanlardan maksimum verimin elde edilebilmesi için genotipin iyileştirilmesi yanında; bulunduğu çevre şartlarının iyileştirilmesi ve de ortaya çıkan davranışların bilinmesi önemli yer tutar. Üremeyle ilgili davranışların bilinmesinin döl veriminin artırılmasında etkili olacağı şüphesizdir. Boğa – inek ilişkileri arasında yer alan flehmen davranışı da bu bakımdan önemlidir. Flehmen, hayvanın üst dudağını kıvırıp, burun delikleri üzerine kaydırması, boynunu uzatması ve 10 – 30 sn bu pozisyonda kalması halidir.

Animal behaviour is the mutual inter-relationship between animal and its environment. In order to obtain a maximum productivity, it is necessary to have a better understanding of the animal behaviour and to improve environmental factors in which animals are maintained, in addition to the improvement of genotype. It is certain that the determination of reproductive behaviours has an effect on the improvement of fertility. Flehmen is also of importance in determining reproductive behaviour between bull and cow. Flehmen is defined as curling upperlip to nostrils, stretching the neck up and keeping this position for a period of 10 to 30 seconds.
