Çalışmanın amacı; sosyal değişme sürecinde ailelerin çocuklarını güreşe yöneltme/yöneltmeme nedenlerinin araştırılmasıdır. Bunun için; Bursa ilinde 10 ilköğretim okulunda eğitim gören 1135 öğrenci velisine anket uygulanmıştır. Çocukların spor tercihlerinde ailelerin belirleyici etkisi ve güreş sporuna olan yakınlığı güreşin çocuklar tarafından kabulünü kolaylaştıracak ve yaygınlaşmasını sağlayacaktır, hipotezinden hareket edilmiştir. Katılımcıların %32.3’ü çocuklarını güreşe yöneltmeyi isterken; %48.7’si çocuklarının güreş yapmasını istememekte diğerleri ise kararsız kalmaktadır. Spor branş çeşitliliği ve sayısındaki artış dikkate alındığında; her üç katılımcıdan birinin çocuğunu güreşe yönlendirmek istemesi önemlidir. Çocukların güreş yapma isteği karşısında ise velilerin %36.2’si memnun olurken, %34.2’side karışmadıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Bu sonuç da, çocuklara güreşin sevdirilmesi halinde ailenin desteğinin alınabileceği yönündedir. Yine ailelerin çocuklarını güreşme yöneltme eğilimlerinde cinsiyet, yaş, gelir ve eğitim düzeylerine göre farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir.

The aim of this study is to search the reasons of parents’ leading or not leading their children to wrestling in the process of social change. For this purpose, a survey is made to the parents of 1135 students in 10 elementary school in Bursa. It is known that parents are a determinant in the sport choices of children. We regard the assumption that parents’ fondness for wrestling is important for children’s choice of this sport and if children choose wrestling, the attitude of parents is determinant for the future of wrestling. In the research group, 32.3% want their children to choose wrestling, 48.7% do not want their children to wrestle and 19.0% state that they are indetermined about their children’s choice of wrestling. When we consider the variety of branches of sports and the increase in the number of sports; it is important that one out of three attendants wants their children to choose wrestling. When their children want to chose wrestling, 36.2% of families are pleased and 34.2% of them say that they do not interfere. This conclusion shows that if children like wrestling, families will support them. Also, it is ascertained that the tendency of children’s orientation to wrestling differs according to gender, age, income and level of education.
