Bu araştırmada, Joseph Beuys`un hayatı ve sanat anlayışını romantik bir ütopya olan "iyileştirici şaman olan sanatçı" ve "iyileştirici olarak sanat" bakış acısıyla ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Sanatçının araştırma konusu için seçilmesinin nedeni ise; günümüz sanatında hala varlığını yoğun hissettiğimiz onun sanat düşüncesi ve avangart aksiyon/eylemleri etkili oluşudur. "Her insan sanatçı", "sosyal plastik/toplumsal heykel", "toplumsal heykel-sosyal plastik", "düşünce yontudur", "şaman sanatçı", "sanatsal spritüaller (tinsel)" ve "sanat ile yaşam arasındaki sınır yoktur" gibi söylemleri, onun sanatsal düşünce yapısını ve eylemlerinin (aksiyon) temelini oluşturur. Sanatın yaşamdan koparılmasına karşı bir manifesto niteliğinde olan Joseph Beuys`un sanatsal çalışmaları, günümüz sanatına nasıl yön verdiğini ortaya koyması açısından bu çalışma önem taşımaktadır. Araştırmada Beuys`un yedi sanatsal çalışması; sanatçı merkezli olarak hayatı ve kişilik özelliği üzerinden analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak Joseph Beuys`un hayatı; sosyal, kültürel, tinsel akışı içindeki ilginç devingen kişiliği ve günümüz sanatına olan etkisi (düşünce=söylem=dil=sanat nesnesi, genişletilmiş sanatçı ve sanat tanımı, mekan algısı, yaşam=sanat) onun sanatsal çalışmaları üzerinden analiz edilerek ortaya konulmuştur.

In this research has tried to explain Joseph Beuys` life and arts approach with "artist as a healer shaman" and "arts as healer" as a point of view which has been a romantic utopia. The reason of choosing the artist as the subject of the research is that he has been effective with arts thought and avant-garde actions which we still feel intensively in our arts nowadays. His expressions such as "everybody as an artist", "social plastics/social sculpture", "every shaman is an artist", "idea is a sculpture", "shaman artist", "artistic spirituals", and "there is no limit between life and arts actions" establish his artistic point of view and basis of his actions. Joseph Beuys` artistic studies which have the manifesto qualification against pulling off arts from life have been important in the frame of exhibiting how they give direction to the contemporary art. In the research, Beuys` eight artistic studies have been analyzed in the frame of his life and individuality as artist centered. As a result, Joseph Beuys` life has been presented by analyzing his artistic products, his effect on the contemporary arts (idea=expression=language=arts object, enlarged artist and arts definition, place perception, life=arts) and his interesting, dynamic individuality in his social, cultural, spiritual flow.
