Gaziantep, geleneksel mesleklerin günümüzde hâlen sürdürüldüğü illerden biridir. Ancak araba koşumları, binek veya çeki at takımları, eyer, semer gibi bütün takımların deri ve meşinden olan kısımlarını yapma ve tâmir etme işi ve sanatı olan saraçlık mesleği, hayvan gücünün yerini teknolojinin almasıyla birlikte, traktörün artık kırsal kesimlerde de yoğun bir şekilde kullanılması, makineleşme ve toplu üretim nedeniyle az sayıda usta tarafından aynı çatıda icra edilen meslek görünümüne dönüşmüştür. Bu mesleklerin yaşaması şüphesiz arz-talep ilişkisine bağlıdır; fakat mesleklerin güncellenerek gelecek kuşaklara aktarılabilmesi için, konuyla ilgili yapılacak akademik çalışmaların önemi büyüktür. Bu bakış açısından hareketle Gaziantep’teki geleneksel mesleklerden kedene yapımı çalışmanın konusu olarak belirlenmiştir. Literatür taraması ve alan araştırması neticesinde elde edilen verilerle oluşturulan çalışmada, kedene yapımında kullanılan malzemeler tanıtılmıştır; Çalışmada ayrıca kedene yapım süreci fotoğraflarla desteklenerek açıklanmıştır.

But the job of making and naming all the leather and metal parts of carts, such as cart harnesses, passenger or trailer horses, saddles and saddles, and the saddlery of arts, with the animal's power being taken by the technology, the tractor is now used intensely in rural areas, and because of the mass production, it has turned into a profession that is practiced by a few masters on the same roof. The life of these professions is undoubtedly dependent on the supply-demand relation; But the prospect of academic work on the subject is great, so that the professions can be updated and transferred to future generations In view of this point of view, it was determined that the traditional profession in Gaziantep was the subject of studying the making of the kedene. In the study, which is obtained as a result of literature survey and field research, first of all, the materials used in making the tables were introduced; In the study, the grief is explained by supporting the construction process with photographs.
