Bu çalışmada Guy de Maupassant’ın Pierre ve Jean isimli roman, kurguyu güçlendiren aile, gençlik ve ahlâk olarak üç başat izlek yönünden ele alınmıştır. İki oğlu Pierre ve Jean ile mutlu bir yaşam süren Roland ailesinin yazgısı aile dostlarından Bay Maréchal’in küçük oğulları Jean’a bıraktığı mirasla birlikte değişir. Romanda aile ve özellikle anneyle ilişkilendirilen ahlaki değerler bu iki gencin bakış açısıyla yansıtılır. Romanda bu mirasın tüm aileyi nasıl etkilediği, yaşamlarını ve yazgılarını ne şekilde değiştirdiği ahlaki değerlere vurgu yapılarak iki kardeşten özellikle Pierre’in değerlendirmeleriyle ön plana çıkartılarak yansıtılır. Roman boyunca annesinin iffeti, ailesi ve yaşamları üzerine derin düşüncelere kapılan ve çıkış yolu arayan Pierre’in yaşadıkları özellikle iç dünyası temel alınarak yansıtılır. İçinde yaşadığı derin sarsıntıyı tek başına aşmaya çalışan ancak başarısız olan Pierre yaşadığı olayları anlamaya, çözmeye çalışırken yaşamını derinden değiştirecek süreci de kendi elleriyle hazırlar. Pierre ve Jean bu açıdan yazıldığı dönemin toplumsal yaşamı ve ahlaki değerleri hakkında önemli bilgiler verir.

In this study, the novel in the name of Pierre and Jean by Guy de Maupassant is discussed in terms of family, youth and ethical values as the dominant themes that make the fiction strong. The fate of the Rolands who live with their two sons happily changes due to the legacy which Mr. Maréchal, their family friend, left to their son, Jean. In the novel, family and the ethical values that are related to especially the mother are reflected in the point of view of these two young brothers. In the novel, the effects of the legacy on the family, the changes in their lives and fate are discussed emphasizing the ethical values and particularly the consideration of Pierre is brought into prominence. Throughout the novel, Pierre’s reflections on his mother’s chastity, family and livelihood are reflected on the basis of the inner world, especially Pierre’s life. Pierre, who is trying to overcome the deep jolt that he lives in, but failed, understands the events he is living in, and while he tries to solve, he prepares himself with his own hands to change his life deeply. From this point of view, Pierre and Jean gives important information about the social life and ethical values of the period that it was written.
