Çalışmanın amacı, sürat ve hızın farklı nicelikler olduğunu belirtmek ve ÖSS matematik sorularında o nicelikler için kullanılan anlamlarını tartışmaktır. Araştırmanın verilerine, yayınlanmış kitap ve bilimsel makale gibi dokümanların incelenmesiyle ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma için hareket problemleriyle ilgili ÖSS matematik soruları dâhil olmak üzere incelenen dokümanlarda ortalama hız, ani hız ayrımı yapılmadan her ikisinin ve ortalama süratin yerine genelde hızın kullanıldığı söylenebilir. Genelde sorularda sayısal değerlerin, yani verilerin hız için verildiği ancak problemlerin çözümlerinde ortalama sürate ait gibi düşünülerek işlemlerin yapıldığı görülmektedir. Belirlenen çelişkili durum hareket problemleriyle ilgili ÖSS matematik sorularının ve çözümlerinin genelinde bulunmaktadır. Sürat ve hızın farklı nicelikler olduklarının bilinmesi bir yana adeta eş anlamlı iki sözcük gibi algılandıkları ve o şekilde kullanıldıkları anlaşılmaktadır. Çalışmada sürat ve hız niceliklerine dair açıklamalara göre hareket problemleriyle ilgili ÖSS matematik sorularını hatalı hazırlayan ve çözen matematikçilerin sürat ve hız niceliklerini yeterince bilmedikleri çıkarsaması yapılabilir. ÖSYM'nin, disiplinler arası işbirliği eksikliğini giderebildiği takdirde tartışılan hatalı soruların hazırlanmasını ve sorulmasını engelleyebileceği düşünülmektedir.

The purpose of the study is to identify that velocity and speed are two different quantities and to discuss their meanings used in ÖSS mathematics questions. The research data were obtained by examining the documents like published books and scientific articles. It can be stated from the documents examined including the ÖSS mathematics questions about motion problems that both velocity and speed were used in place of average velocity and instantaneous velocity without discriminating between them and speed is usually used in place of average velocity. It is seen that the numeric values or data are usually given for velocity; however, while solving the problems, the operations are done considering it as average speed. This determined contradictory situation is present with ÖSS mathematics questions and solutions related to motion problems. It is understood that although it is known that speed and velocity are different quantities, they are perceived as synonyms and used like that. It can be deduced from the study that considering the explanations about velocity and speed, the mathematicians who prepared wrong ÖSS mathematics questions about motion problems and those who solved them incorrectly do not know the quantities of velocity and speed adequately. It is considered that if ÖSYM is able to eliminate the lack of interdisciplinary collaboration, they can hinder the preparation of such wrong questions as well as asking them.
