Halkın bir arada olabileceği ve kültürel/sosyal paylaşımlarda bulunabilecekleri alanlar kamusal alanlar olarak nitelendirilir. Kamusal alan kavramı kent unsurunun ortaya çıkışıyla anlam kazanmıştır. Bu anlam Sanayi Devrimi’nin sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel bir yansıması olarak kentleşme olgusuna da yeni değerler kazandırmıştır. Süreç içerisinde sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik farklılıkların sonucunda kentlerde, bireyden topluma şekillenen ve yeni anlamlar kazanan kamusal alanlar, kentsel kimliğin oluşmasında etkin olan mekânların belki de en önemli bileşenidir. Bu çalışma kapsamında; özellikle kente dair yaşam alanları olarak nitelenen kamusal mekânlarda yer alan çağdaş sanat uygulamalarından Alexander Calder’in mekânı kaplayan büyük boyutlu heykel üretimi; Vito Acconci/Acconci Atölyesi’nin Mur Adası’ndaki devasa mimari tasarımı; Frank Gehry ve Vlado Milunic’in ünlü bina tasarımı; arlo Zauli’nin büyük ölçekli seramik uygulamaları; Banksy’nin neredeyse yaşayan bir organizmaya dönüşen sokak resimleri; John Luebtow’un cam heykelleri/yerleştirmeleri; Sol Lewitt’in karışık malzemeler ile yaptığı uygulamaları ve Brian Eno’nun ışık şölenleri özelinde sanatçı okumaları yapılacaktır.

The areas where people can be together and make cultural/social exchanges are defined as public spaces. The concept of public space has gained meaning with the emergence of the urban element. Within the process, public spaces, that shaped from the individual to the society and have gained new meanings as a result of the social, cultural and economic differences, are perhaps the most important component of the spaces that are effective in the formation of urban identity. Withing the scope of this study; artist readings will be made specific to; Alexander Calder's production of large scale sculpture covering the space which is one of the contemporary art practices in the public spaces that are defined as living spaces specially in the city; The enormous architectural design of the Vito Acconci/Acconci Workshop on Mur Island; The famous building design of Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunic; Large scale ceramic practices of Carlo Zauli; The street paintings turning into almost living organisms of Banksy; Glass sculptures/laying ups of Luebtow; Practices made with mixed materials by Sol Lewitt and Light feasts of Brian Eno.
