Bu çalışmada, en önemli doğal kaynaklarımızdan olan ormanlarımızın, karşı karşıya kaldığı yangınlar analiz edilmiştir. Analizlerde coğrafi bilgi sistemleri teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Orman yangınlarının alansal dağılımında surface analizi, risk ve yüzde hesaplamalarında ise geoistatistik kullanılmıştır. Türkiye’de orman yangınları 1937’den 2007 yılına kadar düzenli olarak artmış, yanan alan miktarında ise azalma meydana gelmiştir. Verilerin daha sağlıklı olduğu 1998 ile 2007 yılları arasında çıkan orman yangını sayısı 20986 olup, yanan alan miktarı 88370 hektar olmuştur. Özellikle ülkemizde orman yangınları Ege ve Akdeniz Bölgeleri’nde yoğunlaşmıştır.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the occurrence of forest fires which are a threat to one of our major natural resources. The analysis was carried out by utilizing geographical information system techniques. Surface analysis was used for the areal distribution of forest fires while geostatistics were used to calculate risks and percentages. The number of forest fires has increased on a steady basis from 1937 to 2007 in the Republic of Turkey while the acreage burnt has declined. The number of forest fires for the period 1998 through 2007 which are more accurate, reveal that the number of forest fires during this time was 20986, while the total burnt acreage was 88370. Forest fires in our country are concentrated mainly in the Aegean and Mediterranean Regions.
