21. yüzyılda bilim ve teknolojinin hızla gelişmesi ile bu hızlı değişim ve gelişime ayak uydurabilecek bireylerin yetiştirilmesi ihtiyacı ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu durum eğitim sistemimizde yeni eğitim ve öğretim yaklaşımlarının önem kazanmasına neden olmuştur. Bu yaklaşımların en önemli amacı öğrencilerin eğitim-öğretim süreci içinde aktif rol almalarını sağlamak ve onların yaratılıcılığını ve eleştirel düşünme becerilerini geliştirmektir. Bunu sağlamak için de kullanılacak yöntem ve materyallerin eğitim-öğretim sürecini destekler nitelikte olması gerekmektedir. İşte karikatürle eğitim bu noktada etkili bir öğretim şekli ve materyali olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Karikatürle eğitim öğrencileri derse karşı güdülerken aynı zamanda öğrencileri aktif bir şekilde öğretim sürecinin içine sokacak bu da öğrencilerin akademik başarıları üzerinde olumlu bir etki yapacaktır. Bu araştırmanın amacı da eğitimde karikatür kullanımının başarı üzerindeki etkisini sınamaktır. Araştırma sonunda elde edilen veriler Sosyal Bilgiler öğretiminde karikatür kullanımının olumlu bir etkisinin olduğunu göstermiştir.

With the rapid development of science and technology in 21st century, the need of training people who can keep pace with this rapid development and changing has revealed. Due to this situation our education systems consider new education and teaching approaches important. The most important aim of these approaches is to make students active during the period of education-teaching and to improve their creative thinking and critical thinking skills. To provide this aim, method and techniques must support education and teaching period. At this point teaching with cartoons emerges as an effective method and material. Using cartoons in education will both motivate students and make them more active in teaching period .Thus it will have positive effect on students’ academic achievement. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of cartoon using in academic achievement in social study course. At the end of the study it was found out that cartoon using have positive effects in social study teaching.
