Modern toplumlarda bireyin temel hak ve özgürlüklerinden biri de özel hayatın gizliliği ve dokunulmazlığıdır. Her birey, özel hayatını gizli tutma ve kendisine ilişkin kişisel bilgilerin korunmasını isteme hakkına sahiptir. Ancak modernleşme sürecinde ortaya çıkan ve değer kazanan bu hak, yine modernleşmenin bir sonucu olarak çeşitli biçimlerde ihlal edilmeye ve anlamını yitirmeye başlamıştır. Bu çalışma, modernleşme sürecinde mahremiyetin nasıl bir dönüşüme uğradığını, mahremiyetin modern devlet, kapitalist örgütler ve bizzat bireyin kendisi tarafından bilişim teknolojileri kanalıyla nasıl tehdit edildiğini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla modernleşme ve mahremiyet kavramları, modernleşme sürecinde mahremiyet kavramının yaşadığı dönüşüm ele alınmış, son olarak modern hayatta mahremiyete yönelik tehditlerin neler olduğu incelenmiştir.

One of the individual fundamental freedoms and rights in the modern societies is that secrecy and the personality of private life. Each person has the rights of keeping the secrecy of private life and asking to save for personal information about his own life. However, this right, which appears and improves its value in the modernization process, has began to lose its meaning and is infringed in various ways as a result of modernization again. This study was taken up with the aim of betraying how the privacy suffer a change in modernization process, how privacy is threatened by the modern state, capitalist organizations and also especially by individual’s own through information technology. With this purpose, modernization and privacy conceptions, also the changing of privacy concept were taken up and finally it was analyzed what are the threats to privacy in modern life.
