Bu araştırmanın amacı, 2005-2006 öğretim yılından beri ortaöğretim kurumlarında yürürlükte olan coğrafya öğretim programının uygulanmasının önündeki engeller ile fırsatların öğretmen görüşlerine göre tespit edilmesidir. Tarama (survey) modelindeki bu araştırmada, öğretmen görüşlerini almak amacıyla oluşturulan anket, 2009-2010 öğretim yılı sonunda internetten coğrafya öğretmenleri e-ileti grubuna gönderilmiştir. Veriler, bu ankete yanıt veren toplam 267 coğrafya öğretmeninden elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde frekans, yüzde (%), ortalama, standart sapma, t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ve Kruskal Wallis-H teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar; coğrafya öğretmenlerinin öğretim programının önündeki fırsatları, engellere göre daha fazla vurguladıklarını ortaya koymaktadır.

This research, aims to find out the challenges and drivers in front of the geography curriculum of Turkish high schools which has been in application since 2005 by surveying geography teachers and their approaches. This study is a kind of survey model. Data was obtained of thoughts and ideas of geography teachers who work in high schools of Turkey via the internet. It has been applied among teachers who are members of an electronic list server in the internet at the end of 2009-2010 academic year. Frequency, percentage, ANOVA, t-test and Kruskal Wallis-H were used to analyze the data. According to results; geography teachers focus on drivers of geography curriculum more than challenges for it.
