Bu çalışmanın amacı, kırsal kesimde görev yapan sınıf öğretmenlerinin ilk okuma yazma öğretiminde karşılaştıkları sorunları belirlemektir. Çalışmanın verileri Kırşehir iline bağlı yerleşim yerleri ile (köy ve kasabalar) Akçakent, Akpınar, Boztepe, Çiçekdağı, Kaman ve Mucur ilçelerine bağlı yerleşim yerlerinde görev yapan 122 sınıf öğretmeninden araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “İlk Okuma Yazma Öğretiminde Karşılaşılan Problemler Ölçeği” ile elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca ölçeğin sonunda öğretmenlerin ilk okuma ve yazı öğretimindeki yöntem tercihleri ile ilgili iki adet açık uçlu soru bulunmaktadır. Çalışmada betimsel yöntem kullanılmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel analizinde SPSS paket programından yararlanılmış ve yüzde (%) ve frekans (f) teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmenlerin ilk okuma yazma öğretimi sürecinde; meslekî gelişimlerinden kaynaklanan, müfredat programından kaynaklanan çalıştıkları okulların fizikî şartlarından kaynaklanan ve eğitimin paydaşlarından kaynaklanan (öğrencilerden, velilerden, okul idaresinden, öğretmenden) problemlerle karşılaştıkları saptanmıştır.

Aim of this research is to determine problems of the teachers working in rural areas during the process of teaching first-time reading and writing. Data for this research have been obtained from two-hundred and fourty four teachers working in settlements such as villages and towns which are bordered with Kırşehir city-center and the other districts of Akçakent, Akpınar, Çiçekdağı, Kaman and Mucur. Data have also been obtained by using ‘’The Scale for Problems Encountered During TheTeaching Period for The First-time Readers and Writers’’ and this measurement has been improved personally by the researcher. Furthermore, at the end of the scale, there have been two open-ended questions related with teachers’ methodical preferences during the process of teaching first-time reading and writing. In this research, descriptive method has been used. For the statistical analysis of the data, SPSS package-programme has been benefited and the techniques of percent (%) and frequency (f) have been made use of. At the end of the research, it has been determined that during the process of teaching first-time reading and writing, teachers have had some problems arising from their professional progress, curriculum, physical conditions of the schools which they have been working at, and the partners of the education, i.e. the students, the parents, the school administration and the teacher.
