Bu çalışmanın amacı, ilköğretim 1. kademe öğrencilerinin sosyal bilgiler dersi 4. sınıf programında yer alan İnsanlar ve Yönetim ünitesinde geçen kavramlar hakkındaki yanılgılarını ve bu yanılgıların sebeplerini araştırmaktır. Araştırma için 15 sorudan oluşan bir test hazırlanmıştır. Bu test 2009-2010 eğitim-öğretim yılının 1. yarıyılında Gaziantep ilinde rastgele seçilen bir okuldaki 100 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Öğrencilerden işaretledikleri seçeneklerin neden doğru olduğunu açıklamaları da istenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde, frekans ve yüzde hesaplamaları kullanılmıştır. Sonuçta öğrencilerin bu ünite de geçen milli egemenlik, yurttaşlık, bağımsızlık ve kamuoyu, kavramları hakkında yanılgılara sahip oldukları anlaşılmıştır.

The aim of the study is to find out 4th graders’ misconceptions on the section about “humans and governance” and to examine the reasons for the misconceptions. For the study, a test with 15 questions was prepared. This test was administered in a randomly chosen school in Gaziantep to 100 Grade-4 students. Students were asked to explain the reasons behind their choices. the data were analyzed through descriptive statistic techniques. The examination of student responses made it evident that students have misconceptions about national sovereignty, citizenship, independence and public voting. .
