Sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının coğrafya dersine yönelik tutumları, gelecekte öğrencilerinin de tutum ve başarılarını etkileyecektir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının coğrafya dersine yönelik tutumlarını belirlemektir. Sosyal bilgiler eğitimi programından mezun olacak öğretmen adaylarının, coğrafya dersine yönelik tutumlarının değişip değişmediğini belirlemek için Demirkaya ve Arıbaş (2004) tarafından hazırlanan ve 30 maddeden oluşan coğrafya tutum ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının coğrafya dersine yönelik tutumlarını etkileyen etmenlere ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmak için açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Coğrafya Tutum Ölçeğinden elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde SPSS paket programı kullanılmıştır. Anket ile toplanan veriler ise betimsel analiz ile çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda, öğretmen adaylarının coğrafya dersine yönelik tutumlarının sosyal bilgiler eğitimi programından mezun olurken anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği görülmüştür. Öğretmen adaylarının tutumları üzerinde; coğrafya derslerinde uygulanan yöntem ve teknikler, kullanılan araç-gereç ve kaynaklar, ölçme ve değerlendirme yöntemleri, coğrafya derslerini veren öğretim elemanlarının kişisel özellikleri, geziler gibi özelliklerin etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The attitudes that Social Studies teacher candidates bear towards geography course will influence the attitudes and success of their future students. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the attitudes of Social Studies teacher candidates towards geography course. Developed by Demirkaya and Aribas (2004) and containing 30 items, geography attitude scale was administered in order to detect if graduates of Social Studies program changed their attitudes after graduation. Furthermore, a questionnaire consisting of open ended questions was also employed to identify teacher candidates’ opinions regarding the factors that impact their attitudes towards geography course. SPSS was used to analyze the data obtained from geography attitude scale. Other data gathered through questionnaire was analyzed through descriptive analyses. The results pointed that attitudes of teacher candidates towards geography course differed significantly during graduation from Social Studies program. Following were determined to be effective over teacher candidates’ attitudes towards geography course: the methods and techniques employed in geography course, the materials used, the methods of evaluation, personal traits of instructors who taught geography course, and field trips.
