Bu çalışmanın amacı “fen” ve “fen ve teknoloji öğretmeni” kavramlarına yönelik fen bilgisi öğretmeni adaylarının sahip oldukları düşünceleri metaforlar aracılığıyla ortaya çıkartmaktır. Çalışma 2008-2009 eğitim ve öğretim yılı Ahi Evran Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı’ndan 48’i bayan ve 44 erkek olmak üzere toplam 93 birinci sınıf öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri öğretmen adaylarının “Fen …………. gibidir, çünkü……….” ile “Fen ve teknoloji öğretmeni ……….gibidir, çünkü…….” cümlelerini tamamlattırılarak elde edilmiştir. Toplanan veriler içerik analizi tekniği ile analiz edilip yorumlanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda çalışmaya katılan öğretmen adaylarının %28’i fenni “hayatın kendisi olarak”, %12.9‘u “farklı branşları barındırıcı olarak düşündükleri görülmektedir. Ayrıca öğretmen adayları fen ve teknoloji öğretmenlerini %6.5’i “yol gösterici-yönlendirici olarak”, olarak düşünmektedirler.

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of elementary science teacher candidates regarding the concepts of “science” and “knowledge of science”, via metaphors. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 93 freshman teacher candidates, 48 of them female and 44 male, studying at Ahi Evran University Faculty of Education, Elementary Education Department, Division of Elementary Science Education in the 2008-2009 academic year. The data for the study were gathered by having the students complete the sentences “Science is like …, because …”, and “Elementary science and technology teacher is like …, because …”. The data gathered were analyzed using content analysis techniques, and interpreted. It was found that 28% of the teacher candidates who have participated in the study perceive “science” as “the life itself”, 12.9% as “containing different areas of study”. In addition, 6.5% of teacher candidates perceive elementary science teachers as “a guide-leader”.
