ÖZET Demokrasinin kurumsallaşıp kökleşmesi, yurttaşlık bilincinin artması, sivil toplum örgütlerinin güçlenmesi için yerel medyanın sayısız katkıları bulunmaktadır. Diğer taraftan yerel medyanın güçlü olduğu illerde, bu yöre insanları kişisel haklarına daha kuvvetli sahip çıktıkları gibi, istek ve ihtiyaçlarını dile getirmede de daha fazla imkana sahiptirler. Her biri kendi bölgesinin ve kendi ilinin kamuoyu adına sorunlarını, taleplerini dile getirmede, yöneticileri de yine halkın çıkarları adına denetlemede yerel medya, okuyucu gözünde istenilen düzeyde mi? Yerel kamuoyu kendi gazetelerini gerek içerik ve gerekse görsel olarak yeterli buluyor mu? Gazetesinde hangi türden haberleri ağırlıklı olarak görmek istiyor? Local media have made countless contributions to the establishment of democracy, to the deepening of a social awareness and a consciousness of citizenship as well as the consolidation of the nongovernmental organizations. Besides, where the local media are influential, the people in the vicinity are more eager to pursue their individual liberties and rights and have more opportunities to express their needs and demands. Do the local media meet the expectations of the intended level in expressing the demands and problems of the province on behalf of the public and are the local administrators inspected sufficiently by the local media for the sake of the public?
