MERSİN KÖRFEZİ’NDE YAKALANAN LEOPAR VATOZUN (Himantura leoparda, Manjaji-Matsumoto & Last, 2008) YAŞ VE BESLENMESİ ÜZERİNE BİR ÖN ÇALIŞMA

Bu çalışmada, Mersin Körfezi’nde (Kuzeydoğu Akdeniz) yakalanan leopar vatoz (Himantura leoparda) bireyinin yaş ve beslenmesi ile ilgili yeni bilgiler rapor edilmiştir. Tekbir bireye ait vatozun yaşı 10 olarak bulundu. Balığın yaşı %2,8'lik bir Ortalama Yüzde Hata İndeksi (OYHI) ile sonuçlanan omur bant sayımlarından tahmin edildi ve bu yöntemin H. leoparda yaş değerlendirmesine doğru bir yaklaşımı temsil ettiğini önerildi. Ayrıca leopar vatozun midesi analiz edildiğinde indo-pasifik türü olan Erugosquilla massavensis ile dominant olarak beslendiği görülmüştür. Bu çalışma ile leopar vatozun biyolojisi hakkında bilgileri arttırılması beklenmektedir.

A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE AGE AND FEEDING OF THE LEOPARD WHIPRAY (Himantura leoparda, Manjaji-Matsumoto & Last, 2008) CAUGHT IN MERSIN BAY

In this study, we report new information on the age and feeding of a leopard whipray (Himantura leoparda), from the Mersin Bay within the northeastern Mediterraean sea. Age of the single individual was aged to 10 years. Age estimated from vertebral band counts resulted in an Index of Average Percent Error (IAPE) of 2.8% and it was suggested that this method represents an accurate approach to the age assessment of H. leoparda. Diet analysis showed that indopasific species Erugosquilla massavensis individuals were dominant prey in the stomachs analyzed. This study is expected to increase informations about the biology of the leopard whipray.
