Sürdürülebilir kalkınmanın yerel ölçekte önemli olduğu düşünüldüğünde yöresel malzeme kullanımları, eski yapıların uygun işlevler verilerek yaşatılması ve kullanıcıların koruma ve yenilemedeki etkisi gibi unsurlar önemli olmaktadır. Bu nedenle â€Å“kalkınma†fiziksel olduğu kadar sosyal-kültürel boyutu ile de kentsel koruma ile çelişmeyecek bir biçimde gerçekleştirilme amacı taşımak zorundadır. Bu bağlamda, Batı Anadolu yerleşimlerinde göze çarpan zeytinyağı üretim işliklerinin ve konutlarının zeytinyağı turizmi ve tarım endüstrisi turizmi kapsamında korunması, gelecek nesillere aynen aktarılması â€Å“kültür turizmi†açısından çok önemli bir strateji oluşturacaktır. Kentlerin hafıza mekânları içinde, o kente has mimari elemanları ve mekânsal öğeleri ile nasıl ve ne şekilde korunup yenilecekleri hususu bu çalışma ile varılmak istenen en önemli sonuçlardan biri olarak düşünülmektedir.

By considering the significance of sustainable development at the local scale; some factors like, the use of local materials, refunctioning of the old buildings with appropriate functions and the effects of the users on the preservation and renewal process have been gaining importance.
