ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARINDA İZ BIRAKAN ÖĞRETMENLERLE YAŞANILAN DENEYİMLERİN MESLEK TERCİHLERİ AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Öğretmenlerin kişilik özellikleri ve öğretim uygulamaları, öğrencilerin öğretmenlik mesleğini seçmelerinde etkilidir. Bu betimsel çalışmada, öğretmen adaylarının ilköğretim kademesinde öğrenciyken kendi öğretmenleriyle olan deneyimlerinden iz bırakanları incelenerek meslek tercihi açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmaya Pamukkale Üniversitesinde Sınıf Öğretmenliği programının son sınıfına kayıtlı 140 gönüllü öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Veriler, olumlu ve olumsuz deneyimleri açığa çıkarmayı amaçlayan iki açık uçlu sorudan oluşan bir anket formuyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi, frekans ve yüzde istatistikleriyle çözümlenmiştir. Bulgular, etik ve yeterlilik/yetersizlik boyutlarındaki deneyimleri ortaya koyarken; olumsuz deneyimlerin etik boyutunda, olumlu deneyimlerin yeterlik boyutunda yoğunlaştığını göstermektedir. Etik boyuttaki sorunların giderilmesi, mesleğe yönelik imgeleri olumlu yönde etkileyebilir.

AN INVESTIGATION OF PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS’ EXPERIENCES WITH THEIR UNFORGOTTEN TEACHERS FROM A CAREER CHOICE PERSPECTIVE

Teachers’ personality and teaching practices play an important role for their students’ decisions to choose teaching profession. This study aims to investigate and evaluate the unforgotten experiences of prospective teachers with their own elementary school teachers. Participants were 140 prospective teachers from the Primary School Teaching Program at Pamukkale University. The data were gathered by a questionnaire including open-ended questions aiming to reveal positive and negative experiences. The gathered data were analyzed by employing the techniques of content analysis, frequency, and percentage. Findings draw attention to the experiences in ethics and proficiency/deficiency categories and demonstrate that negative experiences often fall into ethics category while positive experiences were in proficiency category. Eliminating the ethical issues might influence the images toward teaching profession.
